March 30, 2024 will go down in history in our town. Our beautiful monument was officially welcomed in the Center of the Universe and the Secretariat for Virginia (SECVA) committee has many people to thank to make this happen.

Safety/Security Team was let by Captain James Shelhorse.
His police staff were supported by 12 members of the Kiwanis Club organized by Suzanne DuBose with Kiwanis Members Pamela Sopall, Kyle Hendricks, Ken Balog, George Smith, Scott Anderson, Bill Barga, Larry Ham, Greg Glassner, Steve Chidsey, and John Hartman.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members Lisa Davis, Preston Durrer and Carol Dean assisted Captain Shelhorse.

Secretariat Flags! Many thanks to the Town of Ashland staff Martha Miller and Josh Farrar and Anita Barnhart for purchasing the beautiful blue and white checkered Secretariat flags you see displayed at various businesses & R-MC.
Local artist Kate Melson designed our very popular Secretariat Dedication Day Poster and previous Unveiling Day Poster.
Downtown Ashland Association Maggie Longest and Louise Keetonprovided outstanding publicity , maps and signage
Pat Harrison who provided origami Blue and White themed decor for a donor events held at R-MC Birdsong Hall and The Depot.
Sue Richardson helped with for luncheon set up
Angie Miller painted 89 horseshoes donated by Ace Hardware business owner Elizabeth McDade, who also arranged for University of Richmond bugler, Mike Davison to play Call to Post.
Dr. Mitchell Reece loaned his foxhunting attire for the occasion
Liz Bryant, Sue Richardson and Anita Barnhart were official ‘greeters’ at the donor luncheon.
Margaret Copeland who provided Secretariat themed flower bouquets for our stage decor.
Lucy Lindsey donated Secretariat themed silks, ribbons, easels and more
Carmen Courtney helped with Kid Zone activities and serving Secretariat birthday cake made by Donna’s Baking Creations!
Champion Saddlery provided the saddle stand
John Guidon from James River Nurseries assisted with our Triple Crown/Meadow Stable sand that was spread at the base of the Secretariat Racing into History monument and used in commemorative vials to thank donors.
