Secretariat For Virginia (SECVA), the group that brought the “Secretariat Racing Into History” monument to Ashland, Virginia, has announced its new status as a non-profit 501c3 organization. It was formerly a committee of the Ashland Museum.
Board officers: Leeanne Meadows Ladin, President; Wayne Dementi, Vice President; Lucy Lindsey, Secretary; and Ned Henson, Treasurer. Board members-at-large are Karen Engel, Cortne Lanier, Ann Martin, Pam Sopall, and Jeannie Welliver.
Advisory Committee: Kate Chenery Tweedy, the former Chair of the SECVA Committee; Julie Campbell, Jennifer Chambers, Joy Howard, Robin Hutton, Lu Gay Lanier, Stephanie Nixon, and Jocelyn Russell.
“Our magnificent Secretariat monument stands as dramatic inspiration for the goals of Secretariat For Virginia,” said Leeanne Ladin. “We will be promoting regional tourism, educating the public about our area’s illustrious horse racing history, and staging special events such as the annual Secretariat birthday celebration.”
She noted that SECVA is also planning a series of enhancements to the Reynolds Family Plaza at Randolph-Macon College where the monument is located.

The Secretariat Monument is located at the Corner of England St and Railroad Ave in downtown Ashland, VA, directly across from the Ashland Visitors Center/Train Depot.
